I've introduced you to Barry "Bondz" in the past, but in those posts I introduced to him as a talented rapper who also happens to have superb business acumen (he's not a businessman, he's a business, man!!) who also happens to be my very good friend. Today I'm introducing him as a man of great style... "Bondz" has that "where the hood and high fashion meet" style about him that I love so much on men. His style/presence can take him from the streets, to the boardroom, to a five star restaurant, to the red carpet and all the way to Sicily. Yeah he has that "La Cosa Nostra" aura about him and it works for him. Have a look at the pix below and see for yourself. I was watching his latest video for his single "Angel" (Watch it at the end of this interview) and I just kept thinking "That man has immense style and presence..." while also thinking "I am so damn proud of him!!". I figured he would be perfect for a "Man Of Style" article and lucky for me, he decided to grant his friend an interview. So without further ado...
Barry "Bondz" -"Man Of Style" Interview:
GW: First let me start by asking you how you would describe your style?
BB:I call my style Urban Sophisticated. It has a hip hop vibe but very clean. It has a corporate sense. Similar to a billionaire on his day off. Never forgetting where you come from but still representing your true value.
GW: What label is predominant in your wardrobe and why?
BB: Polo by Ralph Lauren. That's my favorite. I love the Polo because you can both ways with one outfit, classy or just hanging out & it will look fantastic.
GW: I'm going to throw a few scenarios at you and I want you to tell me what kind of outfit you would rock for each of these...
A) On stage: Maybe some True Religion jeans. Polo tee, a few chains, vintage Jordans. Gucci shades. Simple
B) Business meeting: "Button down... Dress pants. Tie or a button down with some casual jeans. Prada sneakers. I still love those. The all black ones."
C) Business dinner: "A very nice suit. Need I say more? Lol..."
D) Formal/red carpet event: "It depends on where. The Grammy's: A tux. A regular music or movie red carpet: A blazer. Casual shirt. Jeans. Shell toe Adidas."
E) Date night: "Buffalo Jeans. Gucci sneakers. Polo rugby."
He added:
GW: If you could have any designer you who would you pick?
BB: "If I had to pick one it would be Louis Vuitton."
GW: Let's talk grooming products... What's your signature scent? Products you can't live without?
BB: "Chanel Platinum is my favorite sent & I can't live with out my Palmers cocoa butter lotion." <---I LOVE that answer!! Chanel & Palmers!! Fab...
GW: Kicks? I know you gotta have a favorite sneaker... Which one and why?
BB: "My favorite sneaker is a special edition Michael Jordan sneaker called Spizikes. Love em. If I see them I but 2 at a time. They cost $160 a pair. I buy one white pair & one black pair. To me they are the all around sneaker. Feel like I can wear them anywhere."
GW: Ladies style... What do you love to see on a woman? and what do you hate to see on a woman?
BB: "I love a woman that loves to be fly. One that knows how to dress. For me, I feel a beautiful woman can look good in anything. Its all about the attitude. As far as what I don't like. I hate a woman in cheap shoes/heels"
GW: Favorite perfume on a woman?
BB: "Light blue by Dolce Gabbana"
GW: What/who has influenced your style?
BB: "Just growth.Wanting to enjoy the finer things in life. Wanting to send a certain message before I even get a chance to speak."
GW: Who are your "Fashion Icons"? Meaning is there anyone in particular who's style you admire?
BB: "People from Jay z to Brad Pitt..."
And lastly let's discuss "accessories"...
GW: What "accessories' such as jewelry, watch, sunglasses, etc... can you not leave the house without? And what do you pull out for special occasions?
BB: "Can't leave with out my Gucci or Carrera shades. It depends on how my day is going. The shades turn me into somebody else. Lol... If its a special occasion, I just bring my diamonds out. Nothing fancy. Its all about the feel."
GW: And what would you say is your "fantasy" item? Meaning, if money was absolutely no object what you acquire? Any item in particular, such as a special watch, ring, necklace, etc that you would own? And why?
BB: "I would go and buy a classic Jacob watch with no colors & the highest quality of diamonds known to man. I always wanted on of those watches."
